United Spiral Pipe is offering an exciting new career opportunity for a General Manager Business Services with steel industry experience. USP is a dynamic new company in Pittsburg, CA that is a joint venture of US Steel Corp, POSCO and SeAH Steel Corp that will manufacture welded spiral pipe for the transport of oil and gas with North America as the primary target market. We have recently broken ground for our new mill and need a skilled General Manager Business Services to initially focus on ERP design, and development of policies and procedures related to order entry, logistics, facility planning inventory control and logistics from the ground up. A minimum of 5 years of progressively increasing responsibilities in Business Services, including inside sales, customer service and facilities planning in the steel manufacturing industry is required plus BA/BS in industrial, mechanical or business administration, or a four year technical degree in a related discipline. An MBA is desirable but not required.United Spiral Pipe, LLCPosition Description General Manager Business ServicesDescription:Responsible for overseeing all aspects facility planning/scheduling, specification development and compliance, forecasting of production/shipment/inventory, and facility scheduling. Also responsible for all internal sales functions and maintaining strong professional relationships with USP customers. Coordinates activities with and builds positive alliances with the Sales, Quality, Production and Safety and Environmental Managers to assure that all customer requirements and delivery schedules are met. Support product and market assessment and overall responsibility for multiple logistic functions, carrier selection and negotiations for North America.Status: Exempt Reports to: PresidentResponsibilitiesCustomer ServiceoManage and maintain current customer business relationships to meet and exceed customer service expectations oAssists sales, marketing, with seeking and establishing new accountsoManage customer order taking and confirmation processoAddresses quotes and pricing issues with SalesoProvide status reports to customers pro-activelyoFollow up on and address customer inquiries, delivery, quality, and/or service issues oMaintain ongoing communication with the all department to assure customer satisfactionFacilities Planning/SchedulingoProvide overall direction and use state-of-the-art systems for all facility planning and scheduling activities related to plant productionoResponsible for manufacturing specifications, production shipment, forecasting and schedulingoInventory control and management raw materials, in-process and finishedoTrack work in progress to assure timely satisfaction of delivery deadlines oSupport planning of budgets and scheduling facility modificationsoSupport Plant in preventive and planned maintenance programsoKeep up to date on technological changes to meet changing standards to improve efficiency and to remain in compliance with new lawsMarketingoManage process for scheduling hot rolled coil shipments from U.S. Steel and Posco, as well as duty payments/reconciliationsoManage and support market research, assessments and program evaluationsLogisticsoManage process for activities related to the transportation of materials to USP, and the shipment of finished product to customer destinations. oDevelopment of Third Party Logistics and Transportation Service ProvidersDevelop and maintain productive working relationships and open communication with the Sales, Purchasing, Commercial, and Operations DepartmentsPrepare regular analytical status reports for senior managementAdditional duties that may be assigned.Competencies/SkillsProfessionalIn depth knowledge, experience and understanding of all concepts, practices and procedures of the spiral steel pipe manufacturing industryAbility to utilize past experience in solving new complex problemsRely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goalsPresentation/oral communication skills/effective business writingAbility to conduct meetingsAbility to multi-task/prioritizeEthics (transparency, effect, fairness)Relationship building skillsPerformance management skillsCross cultural awareness and communicationConflict resolutionProficiency:Computer, MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint Essential Functions: To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to perform the essential functions in a satisfactory manner.
